I’m very much an introvert. Always have been. Maybe it’s 15 years of talking to myself in small, isolated, soundproof radio studios? I don’t know. I’ve just always been a quiet, keep to myself kind of guy.
Perhaps that’s one of the things I love about being a voice talent. I can work from home. I don’t have to deal with big crowds of people or hustling and bustling offices. I work with my clients one on one. It keeps me in my comfort zone and helps me focus on their individual needs.
Attending a conference is something I’ve never done. Attending a conference is something I said I’d never do!
There are other ways to learn. Like reading books. From the quiet serenity of my apartment. In my recliner. With Sirius 40’s on 4 playing in the background.
Solitude.
Then read a book by Zig Ziglar titled Better Than Good: Creating a Life You Can’t Wait to Live

In the book there is a chapter on passion and ways to nurture that passion.
One of the quotes I highlighted was, “The fastest way I know to build and develop passion in a given area of life is to invest your time, talent and treasure in it.” Ziglar then goes on to explain how if he came to your home he’d expect to see obvious signs of all the investments you’ve made in your passion. Books, college courses, etc… etc… etc…
Then he mentioned, specifically, evidence of a seminar you’ve attended.
Convicted
As soon as I read those words I knew exactly what I had to do. If I want to nurture my passion for voice over I’m going to have to step out of my comfort zone from time to time.
If I’m committed to providing exceptional, five star customer service, I’m going to have to invest in my own learning so that I’m constantly improving myself and in turn, the service I provide for them.
I finished reading the chapter, logged on to the VoiceWorld Toronto web site, and bought my early bird ticket! (Deadline February 28, 2013)
