The Right Kind Of Marketing

I am by no means a marketing expert. However, I am a student of marketing. If you’re running a voice over business, you should be as well.

In the most basic terms, there are two kinds of marketing. Right and wrong.

Right marketing leads to results.

Wrong marketing amounts to wasted time.

Wrong Marketing

wrong-wayHow do you market your business the wrong way?

You can take your demo, post it on a website and share it via social media. You can list it on a few Pay 2 Play sites. Maybe try sending it out to a couple agents. But that’s not going to get you the results you’re looking for.

That’s a very general approach to marketing. It might generate a lead or two. But it’s not going to build your business.

Right Marketing

So how do you do it right? You’ve got to be focussed.

Searching for a Niche Group - Magnifying GlassLook at your niche areas. Where are you booking the most work? If it’s video games, then start marketing directly to production houses that are doing video game work. If it’s phone systems, then start marketing directly to businesses who are using IVR systems. Do you book a lot of app VO’s? Start marketing to app developers.

Don’t just throw your demo out into the great vast expanse that is the internet and hope for the best. Start targeting your demos to the exact people, business and production studios that would benefit from the services you offer.

Do Your Research

Thank to Google, researching the right places to send your demo has never been easier. One quick keyword search and you’ll have a thousand different places to get in touch with. Send an email. Cold call. Use the chat feature they have on their business site.

With a little time, a little effort and a little focus, you’d be surprised at the results you can generate.
