Debunking The Myth Of Delivering Voice Overs Too Quick

Let me just go ahead and debunk a myth that’s been out there for a long time and I simply don’t believe has any truth to it. Some will agree. Some will disagree. Some will breathe a sigh of relief and maybe even re-evaluate the way they do business.

The Myth of Quick Delivery

The myth is simply this… it’s not good to provide quick turnaround to your clients because it makes them think you’re not busy and that makes you appear less professional and more desperate.

Have you heard this myth before? I have. In fact, in the past, I’ve had talent call me out for offering same day delivery on voice over projects. For turning small jobs around in an hour when possible. For doing everything in my power to shorten my clients wait time for their voice over.

Here’s the thing, and I don’t mean this to be rude, but let’s just get real for a minute. To make a client wait to make them think you’re busy operates on the assumption that your clients care about voice overs other than their own.

They don’t.

What Your Clients Want

Quick Turnaround Voice OverHonestly, they couldn’t care less if you’re booking one job a day. Or five. Or ten. Not because they don’t like you, or don’t want you to succeed. When it comes down to it, all they really care about is that you’re completing their voice over in a timely manner and providing the best service possible.

That’s it.

Clients aren’t judging your level of professionalism on how busy you are or aren’t. It’s based on whether or not they’re getting exceptional service from you. Did you give them a great read? Did you follow direction? Is the audio clean? Is it in the format they asked for? Did you get it done ahead of schedule? Were you on budget?

This is what matters to your clients. Not how many other voice overs you have to get done today.

Myth Debunked

So now that the myth is debunked, get to work. If you can crank a project out in an hour, do it. If you want to work after hours, do it. If your client asks you to record on a weekend, go for it.

It doesn’t make you look desperate. It doesn’t make you look any less busy.

It makes you look like a professional going out of their way to provide exceptional service.

Voiceover Turnaround & Delivery

One of the most common questions I’m asked by clients is, “how soon can you do this?

We live in a world of deadlines and urgency. Things need to get done by yesterday because tomorrow hasn’t even come and we’re already behind. I’m not sure why that is, exactly. All I know is that seldom do clients want to wait, or can wait, for their audio. For me, this is not a problem. If you need audio recorded quick I’m more than happy to oblige.

In every job that I audition for and every proposal that I deliver, I tell clients that in most cases I can offer turnaround in 24 or less. Obviously if you need me to read one hundred pages of copy it’s going to take a little longer. For 99% of the work I do, however, 24 hours is my offer. The fact of the matter is, it’s almost never 24 hours. Most of the time I can record your audio right away. If I can’t do it right away, I can likely do it within a few hours. This is one of the services I offer to clients that keeps them coming back. They know that when the crunch is on, I can deliver.

Another common question is “how will you deliver my audio?

I can create audio files for you in WAV, AIFF and MP3 format. If you have special instructions for the audio just let me know. For example, do you need one large file? Or do you need a number of individual files, perhaps broken up in conjunction with slides for a presentation? Either way, I can accomodate. As for the actual delivery method, I can email you audio if the file sizes are small enough. Otherwise I will post the files to my FTP site and provide you with access information. I have a general FTP for most jobs, however if you require it, I can create secure folders as well.

If you need a voiceover in a hurry I can help you. If you catch me in the morning I can deliver it by noon. If you catch me in the afternoon I can record it in the evening and have it waiting for you in the morning. In nearly all instances I can turn your project around less than 24 hours and deliver the audio to the exact file format and specifications you require.

Are you ready to book? Do you have more questions? Lets talk. I look forward to working with you.
