Why Don’t You Have An Agent?

People ask me this question a lot.

“Do you have a voice over agent?” When I tell them I don’t, they immediately ask, “why?”

The answer often surprises people.

One of the things I love most about my current business model is I’m in control. Every lead, prospect, client, audition and booking is a direct result of my own blood, sweat and tears. Not to mention, financially, I’m doing the best I’ve ever done in any career. There was no urgency.

That said, I’m not so naive to doubt or deny the advantages of representation.

Some people think I’m opposed to agents. This is certainly not the case.

So why, then?

Why Don’t You Have An Agent?

Quite simply, I’ve spent the past couple years honing my craft. Discovering my own voice, if you will. Learning my strengths and weaknesses. Determining the genres and niches that suit me.

Now that I’m in a place in my business and career where my confidence is high, my next step is a few coaching sessions and a new professionally produced commercial demo. Then, and only then, will I feel ready and comfortable to begin the pursuit of representation.

It’s true what they say. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Shopping yourself and your demo around to an agent before you’re ready, in my opinion, will never end well.

Why don’t I have an agent? Up until now, I simply didn’t feel that I was ready.

Now, I believe I am.
