I have a saying I often recite. Perhaps I’ve even shared it here a time or two. It goes like this. There’s a reason your vehicles rear view mirror is a fraction of the size of the windshield. That which is behind you is not nearly as important as that which lies ahead.
As we head towards a new year, resolutions abound. All we hope to see, do and accomplish fills our mind and our heart. That is certainly a good thing!
For some, however, reminders of all that was lost, unsaid, items not checked off the to-do list, will haunt them as the new year approaches. It’s easy to get down on yourself over the demo not made, the job not booked, the client not landed, the risk not taken.
Reflect
While I would encourage you to spend some time reflecting on all that has taken place in your business on 2013, I’d like to stress even more that you don’t let it drag you down. Hindsight is 20/20, as they say. It’s easy to look back and ponder all the should’ve, could’ve and would’ve moments.
Remember the small rear view mirror? Give it a glance. See what’s passed by. Then turn your eyes back to the windshield. To the unobstructed view of all that lies ahead.
We all have an opportunity to wake up January 1st with a clean slate. An entirely new set of goals. An entirely new approach to our business. An entirely new set of opportunities just waiting for us to grab hold!
For all that may have passed you by in 2013, it’s my sincerest hope that all of it and more is restored to you in coming year.
Wishing you a blessed 2014!
