Providing A Voice Over Only Script

Providing A Voiceover Only ScriptAs a producer or voice seeker you’ve got a lot on your plate. From conception to completion of your project I can appreciate that there are many details you need to sort through. Hiring a voice actor is only one of them. That, in and of itself, can be a huge task simply based on the volume of auditions you may receive.

The last thing you need is a voice talent telling you what they need from you. Again, I can appreciate this.

A Small Favour

With that said, I’d like to ask you one small favour. I don’t want to be so bold as to say that I speak on behalf of voice actors everywhere, but I feel confident suggesting that I speak for at least a few.

Do you think you could accommodate us with a voice over only script?

Allow me a moment, if you will, to explain my request.

Recently I received a script from a client and began to read it. It all seemed straight forward until a couple of paragraphs in I noticed that something didn’t seem proper. The language wasn’t jiving and the sentence I was reading seemed somewhat random. It was at this moment I realized that I was reading production notes. They were incorporated into the script. In essence, I was reading the notes the client was writing for the animator.

After making this realization I stopped recording and started reading over the rest of the script, for a second time. This time, reading a little more closely. It was then that I realized these production notes were sprinkled throughout the entire script.

Help Me, Help You

I had promised this client a very speedy turnaround, something I always try and do. Only now, instead of recording their script, I was first going to have to edit their script. All of those production notes would have to be removed so I could read straight through. This was a lengthy delay, as I had to make sure I only removed production notes and everything else in the script made sense.

I want to provide you with the best voice over possible. My goal is to record your script quickly, send you an edited audio file, and have you completely satisfied with it. I do this because I know you’re busy. You’ve got a lot of other “i’s” to dot and “t’s” to cross.

If you can help me out by sending me a voice over only script that I can read straight through, I can help you out by getting you that voice over in a timely and efficient matter.

If you must include production notes in your script, might I suggest using two columns in your document? One side can be for your production notes and the other for the voice over script. Not only does this help the voice talent but it will make life easier for your editor or producer as well.

More Efficient Service For You

Providing a voice over only script ensures that the talent doing your recording will be reading exactly and only what you want said. It can save you a lot of time not only in getting your finished audio but also in editing, if sentences or sections that were never intended to be read were read and now must be removed.

It’s something you may not even think about, and this is why I mention it.

As you’re preparing your next script for me or any other voice talent you may be working with, keep this simple tip in mind. It will help us help you, by allowing us to provide you with better service!
