Passport – I Can Do Voiceover From Anywhere!

Passport - Marc Scott - Male Voice TalentI’ve talked about getting my passport for a couple of years now. I don’t really know why. I’m not a world traveler by any account. Then again, perhaps that’s because I don’t have my passport? Hmm…

Last September (2011) I finally decided it was time to stop talking, thinking and dreaming about it, and actually get it done. So I started the process. Filled out the applications. Gathered my references. Convinced a friend to be my Guarantor.

Then I did nothing.

Then I lost the papers.

This week I got to thinking about my passport again. It’s an interesting place I find myself in. When I was working full time I didn’t have the time to go anywhere. Since I got laid off from my radio job, now I’ve got all the time in the world to travel. I just likely shouldn’t be spending the money.

That’s when it hit me.

Thanks to modern technology, I can do voiceover work from anywhere in the world. All I need is my laptop, a microphone and an Internet connection. I could be sitting on a beach in some tropical climate sipping Dr Pepper through a straw with one of those umbrellas and recording a voiceover. Nobody would never know the difference. It doesn’t matter where I am so long as I can record.

So I did it. Today I went and applied for my passport and I’ve been told it will arrive in a couple of weeks.

I have no idea where I’ll travel, or even if I will. At least now, should the mood strike me, I know I can. I can because I have a passport and I can because being a Male Voice Talent gives me the freedom to work from anywhere I see fit.

Where would you go if you could take off for anywhere tomorrow?
