One Word That Can Sink Your Voice Over Business

On more than one occasion, after a really stellar day or week, I’ve looked at my books with a smile and walked out of the office early. Sometimes I take an afternoon off. Sometimes a few days off. After a big score, I’d think to myself, “My week is made, I’ve earned a break and a little celebratory adventure.”

There’s not necessarily anything wrong with that. We all need time out of the office and success is certainly something to be enjoyed! Otherwise, what’s the point?

But you have to be careful.

One Word That Can Sink Your Business

sucess breeds complacencyIt’s one thing to enjoy your success. It’s an entirely different thing to allow a little success to cause you to become complacent.

If there is one word that can kill your voice over business, that’s the word… complacency.

When you start letting yesterday’s success ease you into tomorrow’s complacency, you’re in trouble. Your business is in trouble. When the big score is enough that you don’t work for the rest of the week, you’re setting yourself up for failure. When every good day leads to a day off or every good week leads to a week off, you’re walking a dangerous path.

When you start letting yesterday’s success ease you into tomorrow’s complacency, you’re in trouble.

Success breeds success. You need harness that energy and momentum and allow it to carry you into the next gig, the next contract, the next new client.

If yesterday was good, greet tomorrow with thoughts of how you’ll make it even better.

QUESTION: I’ve been guilty of complacency. Have you?
