I Wanted It To Be Me So Badly

You’ve Got Mail is, quite possibly, one of the greatest romantic movies ever made.

How’s that for an opening line on a voice over blog written by a man in his 30’s?

I watch You’ve Got Mail every time I see it on TV. I can’t help myself. I don’t even want to think about how many hours I’ve spent on the couch over the years investing even more of my precious time into that movie. If I did, I’d be ashamed. Yet, I’d change nothing!

I Wanted It To Be You

I Wanted It To Be You So Badly - You've Got MailI don’t care who you are. Not your race. Religion. Orientation. Gender. None of it matters when Meg Ryan delivers the line that tugs at every last heartstring in your body…

“I wanted it to be you. I wanted it to be you so badly.”

Dang!

My heart melts a little even now. Just thinking about it. Closing my eyes and envisioning it in my mind.

But what does it have to do with voice over, you ask? Good question.

I Wanted It To Be Me

Tell me I’m not the only one that does this.

You get an audition invitation. Click the link. Read it over. You like what you see. Enclosed in the instructions is a link. A link to a video the client has posted as a reference.

Before you click the link, you close your eyes and think to yourself, “I want it to be me. I want it to be me so badly!”

Am I the only one?

Come on, just once, wouldn’t it be nice to click that link and be taken to a project you voiced?

You know it would!

QUESTION: Has it ever happened to you? Have you clicked that link and it’s been your voice on the other end?
