People think I’ve got it all together because I’m a working voice actor. I book jobs. Earn some income. Have some credibility. I’ve learned to present myself well online. I’m learning (slowly) how to present myself well in person.
Can I let you in on a little secret?
This didn’t come naturally.
A few years ago, I was a total mess. All over the place. No real plan. No solid strategy. I tried anything and everything and hoped something would actually work. Produce results.
Ever feel this way?
Or, are you on the other side of the coin?
Do you feel so afraid of looking unprofessional that you simply don’t put yourself out there at all?
You’d rather wait until you’ve got it all figured out?
Here’s another secret… you’ll NEVER have it all together!
Giving You Permission to Launch
One of the best pieces of advice I ever remember reading was this…
“Get started, even though you might fail.”
Huh? Fail? What? But… but… but…
My friend… heed this advice and go and get started.
I’d never be where I am today if I hadn’t done all the dumb things I did a few years ago.
It’s Going to Be OK!
Not everything you do is going to be great. That’s ok.
Not every audition will book. That’s ok.
Your first website may not be your best website. That’s ok.
Your first draft marketing email might not work. That’s ok.
You may choke on a session or two or ten. That’s ok.
Your first demo is going to need to be redone one day. That’s ok.
Get Started; Even Though You Might Fail
If you get started and commit to keep learning, you’re going to grow. Get better. Be more successful. Book more jobs. Land that agent. Get that credit.
Where you start today doesn’t need to be where you stay.
I’m not the same voice actor I was five years ago.
I’m not the same coach I was four years ago.
I’m not the same man I was three years ago.
I’m not the same #vopreneur I was two years ago.
I’m not the same husband and father I was one year ago.
But I wouldn’t be anywhere if I didn’t first get started.
